Breeders’ Cup Promotion 2009
Official Rules

The Breeders’ Cup promotion will be conducted beginning October 16th, 2009 through November 6th, 2009. The California Lottery reserves the right to terminate the promotion at any time.

Players who participate in the Breeders’ Cup promotion and match the winning horse of the Breeders’ Cup Classic Race on November 7th, 2009, will be entered into a drawing for 456 prizes ranging from $50 to a top prize of $50,000. The California Lottery will use the official results of the Breeders’ Cup Classic Race that will be provided to the Lottery by Oak Tree Racing Association. These results will be final. There will be a Bonus Draw for one winner of $1,000 and four (4) VIP tickets for the Breeders’ Cup Tournament on November 7th, 2009. Transportation costs and lodging not included.

Participation is open to persons 18 years of age or older. Players must meet eligibility requirements at the time of the promotional drawing. This promotion is not open to employees of the California Lottery, their agents and their families residing in the same household.

When a Lottery customer purchases $5 of Hot Spot tickets in a single transaction, a web entry code coupon will automatically generate to use to enter into the Breeders’ Cup promotional drawing. A single wager of $50 or more will provide a maximum of 10 web entry codes. Advance Play purchases are eligible for this promotion. Players can register their codes by entering the coupon code into the web site entry form at www.calottery.com/breederscup. The coupon code may only be entered once. Coupon entries will be accepted until 11:59pm, November 6th, 2009.

After players enter their code, the promotional website will retain the entries until November 4th. On November 4th, players will be randomly assigned one horse name and corresponding number for each coupon code entered. The Lottery will send an email notification to all participants that the horse assignments are ready for viewing. From November 4th through November 6th, a player will automatically receive one horse name and corresponding number at the time the code is entered. All players, matching the winning horse of the Breeders’ Cup Classic Race, will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a cash prize.

The California Lottery will follow the Breeders’ Cup Classic Race procedures for any scratched horses. If one horse is scratched from the race, then the designated alternate horse will replace the scratched horse. The cutoff for scratched horse reassignments is Friday, November 6th, 2009 at 11:59pm PST. If a horse scratches on the day of the race, November 7th, 2009, then any players with the scratched horse are ineligible for the drawing. Bonus Draw: All entries from October 16th – October 23rd will be entered into a bonus drawing to win a prize package of $1,000 and four (4) VIP tickets at Santa Anita Park to watch the Breeders’ Cup Tournament on November 7th (a total prize package valued at $6,000). The four (4) tickets are not transferrable and may not be redeemed for cash or other value.

The Lottery will conduct the draw of 456 Breeders’ Cup Promotion winners from among the eligible web-site entries.

In the event that there are less than 456 eligible entries, the Lottery will draw less $50 prize winners. Entries are valid for only one draw plus the bonus draw. The entry deadline is November 6th, 2009 at 11:59pm PST.

The Lottery will post the winner’s names on the website, www.calottery.com/breederscup by November 14th. Winners will receive notification and a claim form via email. If the email address the player provided is not valid, then the Lottery will send a congratulatory letter and claim form via U.S. mail. From the time the Lottery sends the claim forms, players will have 60 days to return the claim form. When the Lottery receives a winner’s completed claim form, the prize will be mailed to the winner within approximately 8 weeks. The coupon is not required to redeem a prize. The California Lottery will select alternates for ineligible winners. All winning entries will be verified. Alternates will not be selected for unclaimed prizes. All decisions of the California State Lottery are final.

Bonus Draw: The winner’s name will be posted on the website, www.calottery.com/breederscup by October 30th, 2009. The winner will receive notification and a claim form via email. Due to the short claim period, the Lottery will also contact the winner via a phone call. The prize will be sent to the winner by Nov 4, 2009.

Participants are responsible for complying with these official promotional rules. Proof of age, eligibility, and identity must be furnished upon request. Once submitted, all entries become the property of the California Lottery and will not be returned. Participants agree to the use of their names and/or likeness for advertising and publicity purposes, without compensation. All federal tax requirements apply to the winners. By participating in the promotion, and/or accepting any prize, the winner agrees to release and hold harmless the California State Lottery and its Commissioners, employees, agents, and officers from any claim, demand, judgment, award, and/or any liability of any kind whatsoever.
